Anthony J Sargeant took this photograph on a sunny September afternoon in 2015. The cool weather and winds have made plant growth very late this year – but eventually the buddleia (it is not called ‘The Butterfly Flower’ for nothing) did flower and this week the butterflies have descended on them in the late summer warmth. Here there are four small tortoiseshell butterflies (Aglais urticae) on one buddleia flower head.
