South Persian Rug – Afshar in the collection of Eileen and Anthony Sargeant

Standard

IMG_2440

This wonderful detailed rug was woven in South Persia – probably in the second half of the 19th century – by women of the Afshar tribe. it is very fine and detailed and fortunately although low in pile that lowness is over the whole rug and it is never so low as to be ‘bald’! We will certainly retain this rug and either hang it – or alternatively rotate it on some quiet area of our home. (oh by the way – in case you are confused it is lying on top of some other antique rugs.
